Kids' Clothing Size by Age and Height

Age is only a rough proxy for size: two healthy 5-year-olds can differ by 15 cm in height. This chart lists the average height, weight and chest for each age from birth to 14, then shows the size that matches in the US (months, T sizes, and 4 to 16), Europe (height in cm), Korea and Japan (height in 10 cm steps). Use it when you cannot measure the child, for example when buying a gift, and choose the larger size if unsure.

Growth is fast and uneven. Babies gain about 25 cm in the first year, toddlers 10 to 12 cm a year, school-age children 5 to 7 cm a year, then a spurt of 8 to 10 cm around puberty. A 2-year-old at 87 cm wears EU 92 or KR/JP 90, a 5-year-old at 110 cm wears EU 110 or US 5, a 10-year-old at 138 cm wears EU 140 or US 10. If you know the child's height, use the height columns rather than age.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size does an average 4-year-old wear?

An average 4-year-old is about 102 to 104 cm tall and 16 kg. That is US 4T or 4, EU 104, Korean 100 to 110 and Japanese 100 to 110. Buy 110 if you want it to last through the year.

What is the difference between US 24M and 2T?

Both fit around 86 to 92 cm height, but 24M is cut for babies still in diapers with a wider seat and shorter rise, while 2T is slimmer and slightly longer for walking toddlers.

Which size for a 10-year-old in Korean or Japanese brands?

The average 10-year-old is 138 to 140 cm, so Korean and Japanese 140. That matches EU 140, US 10 (M). Tall 10-year-olds around 145 cm should take 150.

How much bigger should I buy for a gift?

One height step, which is 10 cm in Korea/Japan or 6 cm in Europe. Children grow into it within 6 to 12 months, and slightly large clothing is more wearable than slightly small.
