Brand Size Charts
Generic conversion tables get you close; brand charts get you the right size. Every brand cuts to its own last and pattern, and the differences are measurable. Nike shoes fit about 5 mm shorter than Adidas at the same US number, New Balance publishes widths from 2A to 6E, Zara's EU sizes run a half size small, and Uniqlo tops in Japanese sizing are one letter smaller than the US equivalent. This index links to a dedicated chart for each brand with its official measurements.
Each brand page shows the maker's own foot-length or body-measurement table alongside our standard columns, so you can see exactly where the brand deviates. Where a brand has separate charts for regions, for example Uniqlo Japan versus Uniqlo US, both are listed. Pick the brand you are buying, measure once, and compare. If a brand is missing, the generic charts for shoes and clothing remain a good starting point.
Shoes
- Nike Nike generally runs about half a size small and narrow, especially Air Force 1 and Dunk. Most people go up half a size from their true foot length.
- Adidas Adidas fits closer to true size than Nike. Ultraboost and Samba run slightly long, Yeezy 350 runs small (go half up), Gazelle runs narrow.
- New Balance New Balance runs true to size with a roomier toe box than Nike. Many models come in widths (D standard, 2E wide, 4E extra wide); 990/2002R run slightly large.
- Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars run about half a size large. Most people go half a size down from their usual sneaker size; Chuck 70 fits slightly snugger than the classic.
- Vans Vans fit true to size but are flat and low-volume. Old Skool and Authentic feel snug at first and break in; Slip-Ons have no laces so do not size up.
- Puma Puma runs about half a size small and narrow, especially Suede Classic and Palermo. Going half a size up is the common advice.
- Asics Asics running shoes fit true to size with a snug midfoot; Gel-Kayano and Gel-1130 lifestyle models run slightly small, so go half up if between sizes.
- Dr. Martens Dr. Martens come in whole UK sizes only and run large. If you are a half size, go down; the leather is stiff at first but stretches after break-in.
- Birkenstock Birkenstock uses EU sizes only, in whole steps. Leave about 0.5 cm of footbed visible in front of and behind your foot. Choose Regular or Narrow width; Narrow suits most Asian women's feet.
- Crocs Classic Clogs are "roomy fit" and come in whole sizes only. Half sizes should go down; a full size down works for many people. Lined and Bae/platform models fit snugger.
Clothing
- Zara Zara runs small and slim, following European fashion sizing. Most people size up one from their usual, especially in tailored jackets and trousers.
- Uniqlo Uniqlo is true to Asian sizing: roughly one size smaller than US/EU brands, with shorter sleeves and inseams. US shoppers usually size up; Korean and Japanese shoppers can take their usual size.
- H&M H&M runs small and inconsistent across lines: Divided (young) is the tightest, basics are true to size, and Conscious/Premium runs closer to standard EU. When unsure, size up.
- Levi's Levi's jeans are sized by waist and inseam in inches (W32 L32). Rigid/raw denim (501 STF) shrinks and should be bought a size up in waist; stretch fits (511, 512) are true to size.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which shoe brands run small?▾
Nike and Converse are the usual suspects, fitting about half a size small in length and narrow in the forefoot. Vans and Adidas Originals are close to true. New Balance, Asics and Saucony are true to size with wider options.
Do Zara and H&M use the same EU sizes?▾
They use the same numbers but different fits. Zara cuts slim and about half a size small; H&M is closer to standard EU sizing. A Zara EU 38 is roughly an H&M EU 36 to 38 depending on the garment.
Is Uniqlo sizing the same worldwide?▾
No. Uniqlo Japan and Korea use Asian sizing, about one letter smaller than Uniqlo US and EU. A US M in Uniqlo US corresponds to L in Uniqlo Japan. The brand page lists both charts.
How often are brand charts updated?▾
We review each brand's official chart quarterly and after major relaunches. Each page shows the date last checked. If you find a discrepancy with a brand's current site, use the contact link to report it.
